The FBI and law enforcement agencies are investigating the so-called vehicle explosion to determine whether it was an accident or a deliberate act.

Numerous security measures have been stepped up at border crossings, in addition to extra precautions taken at airports, including car checks and additional screening of travelers.

In view of the scale of the event, all four Canada-US bridges crossing the Niagara River were closed, including the Peace Bridge and the Lewiston Queenston.

These decisions were taken as a precautionary measure while the Rainbow Bridge explosion is being investigated.
