5M$ for Trump’s “Gold Card”

Donald Trump has announced the creation of a $5 million “Gold Card”, offering wealthy foreign investors a privileged pathway to permanent residence and American citizenship.

According to Trump, the «Gold Card» aims to attract wealthy investors capable of making a major contribution to the American economy.

All of this while, at the same time, the Trump administration has tightened its immigration policies, planning massive deportations of undocumented immigrants, including those without criminal records…

…and that some proposals include the use of military treatment camps, notably in Guantanamo, in order to expedite expulsions.

This approach raises ethical and legal concerns regarding the treatment of migrants.

Critics denounce a two-tiered immigration policy that favors wealthy investors while targeting vulnerable migrants for swift expulsions. This duality reflects an unequal vision of immigration.

These policies stand in stark contrast to the benefits offered to wealthy investors through the “Gold Card,” highlighting the disparities in the treatment of immigrants based on their economic status.

Trump has stated that this card would attract wealthy individuals who “will spend a lot of money and pay a lot of taxes” in the United States. This initiative aims to replace the existing EB-5 program, which has often been criticized for its vulnerability to fraud and inefficiency. 

Trump’s «Gold Card» will also allow holders to obtain permanent residence in the United States, with a pathway to citizenship, without the job creation requirement of the previous program. 

This program is expected to be implemented within two weeks of its announcement by the Trump administration. However, the $5 million ‘Gold Card’ raises concerns about potential buyers.

Trump himself mentioned the interest of Russian oligarchs, but the eligibility criteria and verification checks remain vague, fueling fears of possible abuses and risks to national security. But rest assured, Trump claims to know some “really nice oligarchs.”
