Catherine Ringer, the iconic voice of Les Rita Mitsouko and a major figure in French rock, has died. Alongside her partner Fred Chichin, she founded Les Rita Mitsouko in the early 1980s.

The duo became famous for their distinctive blend of rock, pop, funk and new wave, producing memorable songs such as Marcia Baïla, C’est comme ça, Andy and Les Histoires d’A.

After Chichin’s death in 2007, Ringer pursued a successful solo career while continuing to perform the duo’s music.

Her unmistakable voice, originality and artistic freedom influenced generations of French musicians and listeners.
