Barry Melrose, one of hockey’s most recognizable personalities, has died.

Born in Saskatchewan, Melrose played 300 NHL games as a defenseman with the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings before becoming a successful coach.

His greatest coaching achievement came in 1993, when he guided Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup Final against the Montreal Canadiens.

Melrose later became an iconic ESPN analyst, known for his signature mullet, colorful personality and passionate hockey commentary. He retired from broadcasting in 2023 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

He was 70.

Carla Jeffery, the American actress best known to younger audiences for playing Bree in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, died on September 1, 2026.

She began acting as a child, appearing in productions including Phat Girlz, iCarly, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Good Luck Charlie, and Shake It Up.

She later gained wider recognition as Bree in Zombies, Zombies 2, and Zombies 3, before reprising the character in the animated series. Her death was confirmed by her agency, which has not revealed a cause of death. Several of her former co-stars have since paid tribute to her.

Also accomplished in theater and voice acting, Curry was admired for his distinctive voice and remarkable versatility.

Dolly Parton, a true country music legend and one of the most beloved American artists of her generation, has died.

Born in Tennessee, she built an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, driven by classics such as Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You.

A singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, she sold more than 100 million records and received countless honors throughout her career.

Shelley Fabares, ‘Donna Reed Show’ and ‘One Day at a Time’ star, has died.

She was notably known for her television roles as Francine Webster on the 1975 sitcom “One Day at a Time,” Mary Stone on “The Donna Reed Show,” and her Billboard Hot 100 song “Johnny Angel”.

“To her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort… whose warmth, generosity, humor, and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for,” said her family in a statement.

She was 82.

Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for legendary Texas rock band ZZ Top, has died.

Beard joined the group in 1969 and spent more than five decades alongside Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill, providing the distinctive backbeat behind classics such as La Grange, Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’ and Legs.

His powerful yet precise drumming helped define ZZ Top’s signature blend of blues, boogie and hard rock.

The band sold more than 50 million albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Beard died at his Texas ranch while receiving hospice care.

He was 77 years old.

Actress Hayden Panettiere, known notably for her roles in Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream franchise, has died.

Her representative told ABC News:

“It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic news of the passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her on screen.”

She was 36. 

Pianist and Jazz legend Oliver Jones has died.

Jones rose to stardom from the same Montreal neighbourhood as friend and mentor Oscar Peterson.

Jones went on to a create a multiple-decade career.

At the height of his career, Jones was generous with his support for new artists, notably Diana Krall.

Kaylee Hottle, a rising actress who broke barriers for Deaf performers with her heartfelt portrayal of Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), has sadly died.

Born into a multigenerational Deaf family, she communicated through American Sign Language and became an inspiring advocate for authentic representation on screen. Hottle also appeared in Magnum P.I. and was recognized for helping bring greater visibility to the Deaf community in Hollywood.

Her promising career was tragically cut short when she died in a car accident in Maryland on July 21, 2026, prompting tributes from co-stars and fans around the world.

She was 18 years old.

CFL player Jayden Dalke has died after a violent car crash, CBC confirms. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders captain was allegedly driving on the wrong way of an highway, according to RCMP.

Another young man, Bhishma Rajyaguru, 22, also died in the crash.

«It is with profound sadness that the Saskatchewan Roughriders mourn the loss of linebacker and team captain Jayden Dalke, who passed away in a car accident yesterday evening. A relentless warrior on the field, Jayden’s determination, toughness and work ethic inspired his teammates, who cared deeply for him and are heartbroken by his passing.

Actor Sam Neill, who shot to superstardom with his starring role in 1993’s Jurassic Park, and more recently in hit series Peaky Blinders, has died.

His family said Neill’s death was “sudden and unexpected” but that he was “surrounded by family”.

Neill had previously been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but announced earlier this year that he was cancer-free.

Bonnie Tyler has died.

The singer shot to superstardom with top hit Total Eclipse of the Heart.

The  singer, known for her unique voice, also had big hits like It’s a Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero.

A message from her family and team stated they were: “heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”

They added that a further statement would come in due course, while asking for privacy “to deal with this tragedy.”

She was 75.

The music world is mourning the loss of singer Lauren Bennett.

The news was confirmed by her former group G.R.L., who paid tribute to her in an emotional statement. The members wrote:

Actress Daveigh Chase has died, TMZ reports.

Chase died from meningitis and an infection, according to her boyfriend.

Chase was admitted to a hospital in L.A. for malnutrition, TMZ reports.

Daveigh Chase caught her big break in Hollywood early with Lilo & Stitch back in 2002 and the follow-up TV show. She also voiced Chihiro in Spirited Away.

She claimed to fame with her haunting performance as Samara Morgan, in the 2002 hit film The Ring, with Naomi Watts.

In 2006, she starred in the HBO series Big Love.

Her other credits include Donnie Darko, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Mercy and ER, among others.

Leonid Radvinsky, the owner of the adult entertainment platform OnlyFans, has died.

Todd Meadows was a young American fisherman and reality-TV personality who appeared on the Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch, which follows crab fishermen working in the dangerous waters of the Bering Sea. Oliver “Power” Grant was 52.

Kara Braxton, former professional basketball player and two-time WNBA champion, has died in a car crash, CNN confirms.

A dominant center out of the University of Georgia, she was selected seventh overall in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock. Braxton quickly made her mark, helping the Shock capture WNBA titles in 2006 and 2008 with her strong interior presence and scoring ability.

Over her career, she also played for teams including in Phoenix and New York. Known for her physical style of play and championship pedigree, Kara Braxton was a notable figure in women’s basketball.

She was 43 years old.

Robert Carradine, actor best known to younger audiences for his role as Sam McGuire, Lizzie’s father, on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire, has died.

With his warm and understated comedic style, he helped anchor the hit early-2000s show that became a defining program for a generation.

Carradine comes from the famed Carradine acting family and built a diverse career in film and television, including memorable roles in Revenge of the Nerds, The Cowboys, and numerous TV movies and series.

NFL player Rondale Moore was found dead, several outlets have reported.

According to investigators, Moore was discovered in a garage in his New Albany hometown, and authorities believe he died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Moore was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and played three seasons with the team (2021–23).

He was later traded to the Atlanta Falcons, but missed the entire 2024 season due to a training camp injury. In 2025, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, where he suffered multiple injuries, including a season-ending knee injury during the team’s preseason opener.

Popular rapper Lil Poppa, real name Janarious Mykel Wheeler, has died, TMZ reports. His cause of death was not immediately revealed.

Lil Poppa was signed to Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group and released several hit tracks over the last few years, including Love & War, Mind Over Matter, and HAPPY TEARS.

Poppa’s 16-song album Almost Normal Again came out in August and he released a new single titled “Out of Town Bae” just recently.

He was 25 years old.
