Jeremy Renner survives the horror

Actor Jeremy Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries after being run over by a snowplow near his Nevada home on January 1. He reportedly broke more than 30 bones.

Shocker in the NFL

On January 2, NFL player Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest. He collapsed on the field during an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Fans gather outside the UC Medical Center for him, who receives medical attention.

A pope leaves us

Mourners at the Vatican pay their respects on January 3 to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as he lies in state inside St. Peter's Basilica. Benedict died in December 2022 at the age of 95. He was elected Pope in 2005, and in 2013, he became the first pontiff in almost 600 years to resign his position, citing his "advanced age."

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, released on January 10 his biography called Spare. Prince Harry set a record after the English version sold more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication.

Ron Jeremy, accused in California of assaulting 21 victims, was declared mentally unfit for trial by a judge on January 18. Doctors believe he has dementia.

MrBeast, a Youtuber, has enabled 1,000 visually impaired people worldwide to regain sight by paying for their operation. In a video, Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, presented a montage of reactions from patients recovering their sight after surgery. MrBeast is the world's most-followed YouTuber.
