Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is opening an unusually personal window into a decision many women navigate privately. She has shared the videos through Instagram Stories and created an Egg Freezing highlight on her profile, explaining that she is personally filming and editing the material while undergoing the process.

Ocasio-Cortez said her decision to document the experience was partly motivated by the limited information she found relatable when considering egg freezing herself. «My hope is that by sharing my experience, it can help others and perhaps normalize not keeping women’s bodies in the shadows.» Her posts are intended to address both the procedure and the conversations surrounding it.

For Ocasio-Cortez, fertility also carries social pressures extending beyond medicine. «Fertility is a loaded topic – from costs, privilege, and class to the way society casts judgement on virtually any choice or outcome a woman has in her life, no matter what that choice seems to be!» she wrote while encouraging respectful discussions around different life choices.

Her fertility journey has emerged alongside separate reports concerning longtime fiancé Riley Roberts. Reports in August claim the couple ended their relationship around late 2024, approximately two years before the separation became public knowledge. The timing has drawn additional attention to Roberts’ absence from Ocasio-Cortez’s recent videos and discussions surrounding fertility and future family planning.

Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts first met as 19-year-old undergraduate students at Boston University and remained together through much of her political rise. Roberts maintained a notably low public profile as her national prominence increased. The couple became engaged after Roberts proposed during a trip to Puerto Rico in April 2022, several years after Ocasio-Cortez entered Congress.

Questions about their relationship had emerged before reports of a separation.
