Crisis in Cuba: Mexico Sends Emergency Aid, But Trump Wants Complete Blockade

Two Mexican Navy ships docked in Havana on Thursday carrying more than 800 tons of humanitarian supplies, offering Cuba a lifeline as the island faces a deepening energy crisis marked by blackouts, rationing and aviation disruptions. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said: «we will send more support of different kinds.»

The deliveries come as U.S. pressure escalates after President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba. A White House fact sheet tied to Trump’s January 29 executive order states: «The Order imposes a new tariff system that allows the United States to impose additional tariffs on imports from any country that directly or indirectly provides oil to Cuba.»
