British actor Patrick Stewart, best known for portraying Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film franchise, has died.

A classically trained Shakespearean actor, Stewart built an extraordinary career spanning theater, television, and film. His commanding presence and distinctive voice made him one of the most recognizable performers of his generation.

He returned to his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard in the series Star Trek: Picard, further cementing his legacy in science fiction.

His death was confirmed following an illness involving Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. 

Patrick Stewart was 86.

American actor Walter Koenig, best known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, has passed away.

He joined the cast of the iconic science-fiction series in 1967, during its second season, portraying the young Russian navigator aboard the USS Enterprise. He later reprised the character in several films, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Throughout his long career, Koenig also made his mark on the science-fiction series Babylon 5, where he portrayed Alfred Bester. He also worked as a screenwriter and author.

He passed away at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by loved ones.

Walter Koenig was 90 years old.

Veteran Hollywood actor Tom Skerritt, best known for his memorable roles in Alien, Top Gun, and MASH*, has passed away.

With a career spanning more than six decades, Skerritt appeared in over 170 film and television productions, becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable character actors.

He portrayed Captain Dallas in Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and Viper, the flight instructor, in Top Gun (1986). He also starred in Steel Magnolias and A River Runs Through It.

On television, his performance as Sheriff Jimmy Brock in Picket Fences earned him an Emmy Award in 1993.

Tom Skerritt was 93.

The hockey world has lost one of its most charismatic players with the passing of Ron Duguay, former star forward for the New York Rangers.

Selected 13th overall in the 1977 NHL Draft, the Canadian played 12 seasons in the league, also suiting up for the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Los Angeles Kings.

Known for his offensive talent, long flowing hair, and flamboyant personality, he became a true hockey celebrity during the 1980s.

After retiring from professional hockey, he notably worked as a sports analyst. 

He had been battling advanced colorectal cancer for several months.

Ron Duguay passed away at the age of 69.

The television world has lost a familiar face with the passing of RJ Mitte, best known for portraying Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, in the acclaimed series Breaking Bad.

Appearing throughout all five seasons alongside Bryan Cranston, Mitte earned recognition for his authentic and memorable performance.

RJ Mitte was 34.

Hollywood is saying goodbye to one of the last great stars of its Golden Age with the passing of Eva Marie Saint.

The legendary American actress rose to fame with her Academy Award-winning performance alongside Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront (1954). She later captivated audiences opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller North by Northwest (1959).

Throughout her remarkable career, Saint distinguished herself through her elegance, versatility, and memorable performances in film and television. Her contributions to cinema earned her a lasting place among Hollywood’s most respected actresses.

Eva Marie Saint passed away of natural causes at her Los Angeles home, at the age of 102.

Lyle Odelein, former Montreal Canadiens defenseman and Stanley Cup champion, has died.

Drafted by the Canadiens in 1986, the rugged defenseman played 420 regular-season games with Montreal between 1989 and 1996, recording 95 points and 1,367 penalty minutes.

He was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 1993, a moment he considered one of the most important of his career.

Odelein later played for several NHL teams and notably became the first captain in Columbus Blue Jackets history.

His professional career continued until 2006.

He had survived a serious infection in 2018 that required an extraordinary medical procedure involving liver and kidney transplants, as well as the replacement of his aortic valve.

Lyle Odelein was 58 years old.

Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist and key member of pop-punk band New Found Glory, died following a years-long battle with cancer. 

His ex-wife, Paramore singer Hayley Williams,  paid tribute to him, calling Gilbert “a legend in the scene” and saying their time together taught her a great deal. She praised his influence on pop-punk culture and his dedication to building the Community.

Gilbert co-founded New Found Glory in 1997, and his guitar playing, songwriting and energy helped shape the band for nearly three decades. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, their daughter Lily, his mother Jackie and his brother Brian.

Chad Gilbert was 45 years old.

George Gillett Jr., the American businessman and former owner of the Montreal Canadiens, died on September 22, 2026.

He acquired the team and the Molson Centre in January 2001 and remained owner until 2009, when he sold the franchise and arena to the Molson family.

His years in Montreal included Saku Koivu’s inspiring return following his cancer treatment, the renaming of the Molson Centre as the Bell Centre, and preparations for the Canadiens’ centennial celebrations.

Gillett was also involved in several other sports ventures and became co-owner of Liverpool FC in 2007.

George Gillett Jr. was 87 years old.

Duncan Sheik, the American singer-songwriter and acclaimed Broadway composer, died in New York.

His mother said he suffered cardiac arrest.

Sheik first rose to prominence in 1996 with Barely Breathing, a major hit that earned him a Grammy Award nomination.

He later found tremendous success in musical theater, composing the music for Spring Awakening, which won eight Tony Awards in 2007.

Sheik himself won Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations.

He also worked on productions including American Psycho and Alice by Heart, establishing himself as an influential figure in both popular music and theater.

Duncan Sheik was 56 years old.

Presley Gerber, a model and the son of renowned supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died.

He followed in his mother’s footsteps in the fashion industry as a teenager, making his runway debut for Moschino at the age of 16. He later worked with major fashion houses and brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

The older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber, Presley had also spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction and mental health.

His family has asked that their privacy be respected.

Presley Gerber was 27 years old.

Catherine Ringer, the iconic voice of Les Rita Mitsouko and a major figure in French rock, has died. Alongside her partner Fred Chichin, she founded Les Rita Mitsouko in the early 1980s.

The duo became famous for their distinctive blend of rock, pop, funk and new wave, producing memorable songs such as Marcia Baïla, C’est comme ça, Andy and Les Histoires d’A.

After Chichin’s death in 2007, Ringer pursued a successful solo career while continuing to perform the duo’s music.

Her unmistakable voice, originality and artistic freedom influenced generations of French musicians and listeners.

Catherine Ringer was 68 years old.

Barry Melrose, one of hockey’s most recognizable personalities, has died.

Born in Saskatchewan, Melrose played 300 NHL games as a defenseman with the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings before becoming a successful coach.

His greatest coaching achievement came in 1993, when he guided Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup Final against the Montreal Canadiens.

Melrose later became an iconic ESPN analyst, known for his signature mullet, colorful personality and passionate hockey commentary. He retired from broadcasting in 2023 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

He was 70.

Carla Jeffery, the American actress best known to younger audiences for playing Bree in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, died on September 1, 2026.

She began acting as a child, appearing in productions including Phat Girlz, iCarly, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Good Luck Charlie, and Shake It Up.

She later gained wider recognition as Bree in Zombies, Zombies 2, and Zombies 3, before reprising the character in the animated series. Her death was confirmed by her agency, which has not revealed a cause of death. Several of her former co-stars have since paid tribute to her.

Tim Curry, the British actor and singer whose career was as eclectic as it was memorable, has died. 

He became a true pop culture icon with his flamboyant portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). 

He also terrified an entire generation as Pennywise, the sinister clown in the 1990 television miniseries It, adapted from Stephen King’s novel. Over the decades, he appeared in films including Clue, Legend, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Also accomplished in theater and voice acting, Curry was admired for his distinctive voice and remarkable versatility.

Dolly Parton, a true country music legend and one of the most beloved American artists of her generation, has died.

Born in Tennessee, she built an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, driven by classics such as Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You.

A singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, she sold more than 100 million records and received countless honors throughout her career.

Parton was also widely celebrated for her philanthropy, particularly through her Imagination Library, which has provided millions of books to children. Her influence extended far beyond country music.

Shelley Fabares, ‘Donna Reed Show’ and ‘One Day at a Time’ star, has died.

She was notably known for her television roles as Francine Webster on the 1975 sitcom “One Day at a Time,” Mary Stone on “The Donna Reed Show,” and her Billboard Hot 100 song “Johnny Angel”.

“To her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort… whose warmth, generosity, humor, and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for,” said her family in a statement.

She was 82.

Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for legendary Texas rock band ZZ Top, has died.

Beard joined the group in 1969 and spent more than five decades alongside Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill, providing the distinctive backbeat behind classics such as La Grange, Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’ and Legs.

His powerful yet precise drumming helped define ZZ Top’s signature blend of blues, boogie and hard rock.

The band sold more than 50 million albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Beard died at his Texas ranch while receiving hospice care.

He was 77 years old.

Actress Hayden Panettiere, known notably for her roles in Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream franchise, has died.

Her representative told ABC News:

“It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic news of the passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her on screen.”

She was 36. 

Pianist and Jazz legend Oliver Jones has died.

Jones rose to stardom from the same Montreal neighbourhood as friend and mentor Oscar Peterson.

Jones went on to a create a multiple-decade career.

At the height of his career, Jones was generous with his support for new artists, notably Diana Krall.

Kaylee Hottle, a rising actress who broke barriers for Deaf performers with her heartfelt portrayal of Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), has sadly died.

Born into a multigenerational Deaf family, she communicated through American Sign Language and became an inspiring advocate for authentic representation on screen. Hottle also appeared in Magnum P.I. and was recognized for helping bring greater visibility to the Deaf community in Hollywood.

Her promising career was tragically cut short when she died in a car accident in Maryland on July 21, 2026, prompting tributes from co-stars and fans around the world.

She was 18 years old.

CFL player Jayden Dalke has died after a violent car crash, CBC confirms. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders captain was allegedly driving on the wrong way of an highway, according to RCMP.

Another young man, Bhishma Rajyaguru, 22, also died in the crash.

«It is with profound sadness that the Saskatchewan Roughriders mourn the loss of linebacker and team captain Jayden Dalke, who passed away in a car accident yesterday evening. A relentless warrior on the field, Jayden’s determination, toughness and work ethic inspired his teammates, who cared deeply for him and are heartbroken by his passing. 

Jayden had a unique gift of making the people around him feel special and valued. No one ever left a conversation with him without a smile. On and off the field, he was the true definition of what it means to be a Saskatchewan Roughrider.

Actor Sam Neill, who shot to superstardom with his starring role in 1993’s Jurassic Park, and more recently in hit series Peaky Blinders, has died.

His family said Neill’s death was “sudden and unexpected” but that he was “surrounded by family”.

Neill had previously been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but announced earlier this year that he was cancer-free.

Bonnie Tyler has died.

The singer shot to superstardom with top hit Total Eclipse of the Heart.

The  singer, known for her unique voice, also had big hits like It’s a Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero.

A message from her family and team stated they were: “heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”

They added that a further statement would come in due course, while asking for privacy “to deal with this tragedy.”

She was 75.

The music world is mourning the loss of singer Lauren Bennett.

The news was confirmed by her former group G.R.L., who paid tribute to her in an emotional statement. The members wrote:

Actress Daveigh Chase has died, TMZ reports.

Chase died from meningitis and an infection, according to her boyfriend.

Chase was admitted to a hospital in L.A. for malnutrition, TMZ reports.

Daveigh Chase caught her big break in Hollywood early with Lilo & Stitch back in 2002 and the follow-up TV show. She also voiced Chihiro in Spirited Away.

She claimed to fame with her haunting performance as Samara Morgan, in the 2002 hit film The Ring, with Naomi Watts.

In 2006, she starred in the HBO series Big Love.

Her other credits include Donnie Darko, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Mercy and ER, among others.

Leonid Radvinsky, the owner of the adult entertainment platform OnlyFans, has died.

Nicholas Brendon (right), an American actor best known for his role as Xander Harris in the cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003), has died.

NFL player Rondale Moore was found dead, several outlets have reported.

According to investigators, Moore was discovered in a garage in his New Albany hometown, and authorities believe he died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lil Poppa was signed to Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group and released several hit tracks over the last few years, including Love & War, Mind Over Matter, and HAPPY TEARS.

Poppa’s 16-song album Almost Normal Again came out in August and he released a new single titled “Out of Town Bae” just recently.
