Jack Black has canceled the tour of his band, Tenacious D, after an inappropriate comment by Kyle Gass at a show in the wake of Donald Trump’s assassination attempt.

Jack Black has suspended Tenacious D’s tour, a decision made in response to an offensive comment made by Kyle Gass, the other member of the duo, during a performance in Sydney. Gass’s comment seemed to endorse the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, sparking controversy.

Gass made the comment as he celebrated his birthday on stage.

Black presented him with a birthday cake and asked him to make a special wish. Gass then reportedly replied:

“Don’t miss Trump next time,” referring to the failed assassination of 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at a rally for the former president.

The remark was immediately met with laughter and cheers from the crowd, but at the same time widely criticized.

After the show, Jack Black issued a statement on Instagram expressing his sincere disappointment, dissociating himself from Kyle Gass’s comments. Black said he would neither tolerate nor promote hate speech, and would not encourage any form of political violence.

After careful consideration, Black declared that he did not consider it appropriate to continue with the Tenacious D Tour, and that all creative projects were now on hold. He also thanked fans for their support and understanding.

Kyle Gass subsequently apologized on Instagram. He admitted that his comment was inappropriate.

Tenacious D had to postpone their concert in Newcastle. Before heading to New Zealand, the band had scheduled four other concerts in Australia.
