Meet the Montreal Canadiens’ key players and prospects for the future

Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki will be the heart and soul of the Montreal Canadiens in the transition initiated by the team's new management.

Jeff Gorton (VP hockey) and Kent Hugues (GM) know that the Montreal Canadiens will have to surround these two young players over the next few years.

Good news on defense, where quality prospects abound. The best example is certainly Jordan Harris, who has just arrived in Montreal.

The 21 year old is fresh out of the NCAA and is already expected to play regularly in the NHL.

Jordan Harris is 5 feet 11 inches tall (180 cm). The lefty weighs 185 pounds (84 kg), and was selected in the 3rd round of the 2018 draft.

Kaiden Guhle is a 20-year-old who the Habs selected in the 1st round of the 2020 draft. He is also a top prospect.

In 2021-22, Guhle was again selected to play in the World Junior Hockey Championship. He was named captain of the team.

The 6-foot-2 (188cm), 199-pound (90kg) behemoth is said to be one of the NHL's elite future quarterbacks.

Mattias Norlinder (pictured) and Logan Mailloux are also two prospects to watch very closely. The CH is counting on a strong backup.

On offense, Rem Pitlick is surprising. While Nashville and Minnesota resigned him, the Habs gave him a shot in 2021-22.

Pitlick has surprisingly established himself as a feisty third center upon his arrival in Montreal. The future doesn't lie with him, but still...

No, the future lies with players like Jesse Ylönen (pictured), Sean Farrell and Jan Mysak.

Ylönen is the closest to a regular position in Montreal. He even played a series of games with the big club in 2021-22.

His great speed will make him a formidable player. At 6 feet (183cm) and only 167 pounds (76kg), he will need to bulk up.

Sean Farrell, the Canadian's 4th round pick in 2020, has just started his college career. We may wait a few years for this left winger.

His progression suggests a nice offensive potential. However, he is only 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds (79 kg).

Jan Mysak has impressed over the past two years in Laval. This 6-foot (183 cm), 180-pound (82 kg) center is likely to be with the CH before long.

In addition to all these young players, there will obviously be other players who are a little younger, like Alexander Romanov, for example.

Unanswered question, however: who will be the long-term goalie? Cayden Primeau has left a doubt in the minds of many this season.

Still, with Ryan Poehling, Michael Pezzetta, Laurent Dauphin and Justin Barron (photo) as depth, and the youngsters coming in...

... we can believe that the future is rosy in Montreal. The team is also counting on several good picks in the upcoming drafts!
