NFL: A new helmet to fight concussions

The NFL and the players’ union have announced the design of a new helmet specifically for quarterbacks to reduce the severity of impacts that can cause concussions.

The VICIS ZERO2 MATRIX QB helmet, which will be available for next season (though not mandatory), has passed tests that showed it to be 7% better than the most popular helmet worn by quarterbacks last season, reports CNN.

This announcement is obviously a direct response to the serious and troubling injuries suffered last season by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, among others.

Good progress, or more smoke and mirrors from the NFL, which has struggled to acknowledge the concussion problem in its league for years?

Time will tell.
