Star pitcher seriously injured… while celebrating

New York Mets star pitcher Edwin Diaz tore his patellar tendon while celebrating his team’s big win (Puerto Rico) against the Czech Republic in the World Baseball Cup. A crushing 5-2 victory.

The visual sequence overwhelms us with emotion because the pain seems unbearable. To see Diaz break down in tears like that is also very emotional.

This news is also terrible for New York Mets fans as they will be without their star closer for (most likely) the entire MLB season.

Following Diaz’s last out to close the game, his teammates immediately joined him on the mound to celebrate, and that’s when Diaz collapsed in pain.

The Mets’ organization said the 28-year-old underwent successful surgery today and will be out for about eight months.

Last year, Diaz had 32 saves and 118 strikeouts with an excellent 1.31 ERA.

Get well soon, Edwin!
