Gunshots
Shots were heard, followed by a second burst of gunfire. Former President Donald Trump then touches his ear and falls to the ground, before Secret Service agents surround him.
The panic
Panic swept through the site. Moments later, we learn that the shooter has been shot.
One person killed
Sadly, one person was killed in the shooting, while two others were seriously injured. Trump suffered a superficial wound to the ear.
A quick exit
The Secret Service extricates Trump from the site and guides him to an official vehicle.
A sign to the crowd
Before leaving the scene, Trump waves to the crowd, fist clenched, urging them to “fight”.

The site of the Butler rally in Pennsylvania then becomes a huge crime scene, as the many police forces, led by the FBI, try to understand the order of events.
The gunman
In the hours following the event, we learned that the gunman who shot Trump had taken cover on a rooftop not far from the rally with a long-range weapon. He was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
