Trump furious after Ukraine attack

US President Donald Trump was furious after a recent Ukrainian strike that targeted the strategic Druzhba oil pipeline.

This drone attack, which took place in August just before Trump’s planned meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, damaged an infrastructure that supplies Hungary, Slovakia and other Central European countries with Russian oil.

Following the incident, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent a note to the US President, expressing his concern and pointing out that this is the only pipeline carrying crude oil to Hungary and Slovakia.

A handwritten reply from Trump, recently revealed, shows his anger towards Ukraine and his personal support for Orbán, whom he calls a “great friend”.

According to Politico, Trump’s memo published online by Hungary’s ruling party, Fidesz, contains the following words: “Viktor – I do not like hearing this – I am very angry about it. Tell Slovakia You are my great friend.”

The Guardian reports that Hungary is accusing Ukraine of “another attempt to drag us into war”.

Even though the pipeline was reactivated on August 19, many observers point to the marked contrast between Trump’s virulent reaction to this Ukrainian strike and his much more measured attitude to the repeated Russian bombardment of Ukrainian cities, which injures and kills civilians on a daily basis.
