Trump slams the door on WHO and the Paris Agreement

During his first term, Trump had already attempted to withdraw from the WHO and had briefly left the Paris Agreement.

His successor, Joe Biden, subsequently ensured their reinstatement.

The American president stated that the United States spends far too much on the UN organization compared to other countries.

He therefore urges federal agencies to “suspend the future transfer of any funds, support, or resources from the United States government to the WHO.”

“The WHO is a rather essential organization. With the withdrawal of the United States, this creates a political gap that only one country can fill, and that is China,” declared Dr. Ashish Jha, who was the coordinator of the COVID-19 response at the White House under the Biden administration, during an interview with CNN on Monday.

This decision is part of Mr. Trump’s plans to increase hydrocarbon production in his country.

He even promised to dismantle Mr. Biden’s initiatives aimed at developing the clean energy sector in the United States.

The withdrawals from the WHO and Paris Agreement are set to take effect in one year.
