Ukraine’s allies unite to face Trump and Putin

Through a series of announcements, the allies of Kyiv are strengthening their financial and military support for Ukraine, particularly in response to the recent statements by Trump.

In a strategic turnaround, American President Donald Trump has recently adopted a more conciliatory stance towards Russia, shifting the responsibility for the conflict onto Ukraine. Kyiv’s allies have intensified their commitment to counter this concerning trend.

Recently, Trump labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and placed the responsibility for the conflict on Kyiv, while seeking to mend relations with the Kremlin. 

This position plunges Europe and Ukraine into uncertainty regarding the peace negotiations between Kyiv and its aggressor, Russia.

In response, the EU announced a new aid package of 3.5 billion euros to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. 

French President Emmanuel Macron traveled to Washington to emphasize to Trump the importance of supporting Kyiv and remaining firm in the face of Russian aggression. Earlier in February, France announced the delivery of Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots on its territory.

Canada, itself facing threats from Trump suggesting it should become the 51st State of the United States, reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine. Ottawa recently confirmed military aid of 440 million dollars, including drones, armored vehicles, and heavy weapons to enhance Ukrainian capabilities.

Madrid has committed to provide an additional 1 billion euros to Ukraine, strengthening its support in the fight against the Russian invasion.

With a commitment of 1.18 billion euros in armaments and equipment, Stockholm proves that Europe remains united behind Kyiv.

The rapprochement between Trump and Russia raises concerns, and his criticisms of Ukraine and his willingness to reassess Western military aid raise fears of a weakening of the Allied front.

European NATO allies are strengthening their cooperation to support Ukraine, while uncertainties related to Trump’s decisions persist. The coming weeks are expected to be crucial for the evolution of negotiations in this conflict.
