Did you know that the Swedish government at one point taxed coffee, banned it, and took away cups? They kept at it for about seventy years, but the public’s demand for caffeine persisted as well. One certain king, who hated coffee, even came up with a very strange experiment to prove that coffee is poison. This is one of the best historical coffee stories you’ll ever hear. Despite all of these efforts, Sweden is today one of the world’s biggest coffee consumers. Even I wouldn’t dare compete with them in my serious devotion to the drink.
