A Russian general dies in a scooter bomb explosion

According to the Russian Investigative Committee, a bomb hidden in an electric scooter caused the death of Russian Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, head of the radiological, biological and chemical protection forces.

According to a CNN source, Ukrainian security services were behind the successful forward.

Kirillov’s death came one day after his conviction by Ukrainian prosecutors.

He had been accused of using banned chemical weapons, in particular chloropicrin, a tear gas banned since 1993 by the Chemical Weapons Convention, signed by Russia.

These weapons were allegedly used by Russia during the invasion of Ukraine that began in 2022, a report confirmed by the US State Department.

Kirillov was recently sanctioned by the UK for the “barbaric deployment of chemical weapons” in Ukraine.

For its part, Kyiv claims to have recorded almost 5,000 cases of Russian use of chemical munitions since the start of the war.

His death was quickly claimed by Kyiv after the explosion of a remote-controlled bomb containing 300 grams of TNT, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The explosive device was concealed in an electric scooter and placed against the outside wall of the targeted apartment, located not far from the Kremlin. The explosion caused significant damage to the building’s facade.

Kirillov’s assistant, identified as Ilya Polikarpov, also lost his life in the attack.

A 29-year-old man from Uzbekistan has been arrested in connection with the murder. According to reports, he was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence and offered $100,000 to eliminate the general. He waited for the general to leave the building before activating the explosive device concealed in the nearby scooter.
